Pré-candidato a governador, ACM Neto lamentou neste domingo (24) a morte de Fernando Gomes, ex-prefeito de Itabuna e ex-deputado federal. “Fernando Gomes, sem dúvida, foi uma das maiores lideranças de toda a região sul da Bahia. Prefeito por cinco vezes, deixou sua marca em Itabuna com muitas obras que contribuíram para mudar o perfil da cidade”, afirmou Neto. O ex-prefeito de Salvador também manifestou solidariedade aos familiares e amigos de Fernando Gomes. “Que Deus conforte os corações e dê muita força aos familiares neste momento de profunda dor e tristeza”.
O governador Rui Costa lamentou no início da noite deste domingo (24) a morte do ex-prefeito de Itabuna, Fernando Gomes. Rui também decretou luto oficial de 3 dias no Estado.
“Quero manifestar meu pesar pela morte do ex-prefeito de Itabuna e ex-deputado federal, Fernando Gomes. Que Deus conforte seus familiares, amigos e itabunenses”, escreveu o governador em sua conta no Twitter.
Fernando Gomes foi prefeito de Itabuna por 5 mandatos e também ex-deputado federal. Ele faleceu na tarde do domingo em Salvador.

Ao longo dos mandatos como prefeito, Fernando foi Presidente da Amurc nos anos de 1997-1998 e 1999-2000, e marcou a história da Associação.

O prefeito de Itabuna, Augusto Castro, determinou que o teatro municipal Candinha Dórea, seja preparado para o velório do ex prefeito Fernando Gomes. O teatro foi inaugurado por Fernando Gomes e o governador Rui Costa, sendo uma das suas maiores obras da ultima gestão em 2019.
